According to the dictionary, a grandstand is a stand that “commands the best view for spectators at racecourses or sports grounds”. When the Grandstand Group asked us to redesign their group website, it certainly wasn’t giving their spectators the best view of their business.
Following meetings with the team at Grandstand, our brief was to bring a level of prestige and clarity to the website that reflects the events they manage. For example, Grandstand has a 25-year agreement with the esteemed British Show Jumping Association to manage the annual Horse of the Year Show.
In 2002, Grandstand agreed to move the Horse of the Year Show from Wembley Arena, its home for over 40 years, to the NEC Arena in Birmingham. It was a hugely complex move as the show takes up over 50 acres of the NEC complex but, with record attendance figures and outstanding competition, it was described by Horse & Hound as a “triumph” and was heralded a resounding success with sell out performances throughout the show.
Since the move to the NEC, the Horse of the Year Show has experienced record visitor numbers. Having celebrated its 65th anniversary in 2013, today’s Horse of the Year Show welcomes 1,600 horses, 1,500 competitors and over 65,000 spectators.
With contracts as prestigious as that, it was clear Grandstand needed a redesigned site.
