As the proliferation of Internet capable devices has increased almost exponentially over the last decade, so have the number of companies and individuals purporting to be capable of creating and building a website specifically for you and your customers’ needs.

It is not difficult to Google ‘web development companies’ and be visually assaulted with both design agency and development agencies the length and breadth of the country, if not the world.

But as with so many things that you find on a Google results page; how do you know which one to go for? Some things to look out for:

  • Existing client base: does the company boast a broad customer base or have they only dealt with small, local companies?
  • Quality: does their portfolio show experience and quality in design? Or are all their sites made from the same template with just a few colour of copy changes?
  • Up to date: is the site keep up to date with news or blog posts?


Web Development Companies and SEO

Now, whilst you can find web development companies that will design and build your website, will they be able to properly market it for you online?

It is all very well owning a 1961 Ferrari GT California but if no one gets to see, what’s the point? If you have a beautiful website that is user friendly and sells your product quickly and cheaply surely you want ot be able to have people find it on Google for your all important keywords and search terms?

Any web development company should build a site with SEO in mind and whilst that may not necessarily be proactive in carrying out the optimisation for you, the site itself should be capable of being optimised by another company without them suggesting you build another site first.
