New Link Finding Opportunities with Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a vital component of the Miromedia SEO process. If you haven’t used it and you want to know what is happening on your website you should definitely start. I still attend meetings with prospective Clients who have no awareness of Google Analytics and often have no way of measuring traffic and visitor information to their site. Actually it is pretty scary how many huge companies we speak to that have no measurement at all in place! Anyway, those clever bods at Google are just about about to roll out a new addition to their already excellent platfrom that allows marketers to see which content attracts natural links. It will form part of the Social Reports section and I have to say I’m pretty excited.

Creating content that attracts natural links is SEO gold dust but other than the obvious challenges it has always been quite tricky to meausre. Ilya Grigorik one of Googles software engineers announced that these “reports provide another layer of social insight showing which of your content attracts links, and enables you to keep track of

conversations across other sites that link to your content…it is then much easier to replicate the success and ensure that you are building relationships with those users who actively link to you the most.” You can see the rest of the article here.

Within the Traffic Sources>Social>Pages section you can select ‘Activity Stream’ which provides an overview of social behaviour relating to your webpage content. And if you click then on the ‘Events’ tab it will list all of the links to your conetent.

Although still in its early days its a great new addition that will certainly assist us to understand what content is compelling and which subjects are trending. more in the coming months no doubt.
