Keeping Control of your Syndicated Content

26th July, 2011 - 1 minute read

Unique and well written content is a valuable commodity on the web, it is important you protect it. Some websites will actively seek out new content and use it on their website to gain Search Engine rankings, sometimes these websites succeed in being indexed before your own site, meaning the Search Engines see them as the originators of the piece. This way you miss out on the value of the content you have created. You can however try and prevent this in a few ways:

Ping your content – Ensure you indicate to the major blogging services the content is yours as soon as you post it. This is known as ‘pinging’ and can be automated.
Use absolute links – Ensure the Search Engines see the majority of copies of the content point toward your website by including ‘absolute links’. This way they will assume that you are the originator of the article.
