Android marches past 50% mobile market share

Latest statistics from Gartner (November 2011) show that Googles Android is continuing to take a huge chuck out of the mobile smartphone market – including Apples iOS mobile platform – and with it the iPhone. Android now account fro approximately 52% of the mobile OS market. Smartphones now account for 26% of all mobile device sales in the last quarter – 1% up on the previous quarter at 25%.

The downturn in iOS take up is generally thought to be the release of the iPhone4s over a new iPhone5 and RIM (Blackberry) are down to 10% market share in the US – although in the UK, RIM have shown users pass the 8 million mark.
